A Little Outfit Inspiration

One of my favourite things I do to support clients following styling sessions is to create outfit inspiration using pieces from their own wardrobes. You have no idea how many outfits are actually hanging out in closets just waiting to be discovered...and worn! I love putting together simple outfits that can be dressed up or down where multiple pieces from one wardrobe can seamlessly be swapped in to create new and multiple looks with ease.

Below are some inspiration outfits that could easily be recreated using clothing from so many closets. The creation of these started with the Fall sports season in mind. I've been noticing so many young teams out practicing which makes my mind jump to thinking about the parents on the sidelines who will be watching all those games! Also, the NHL season is in full swing and the Canucks may actually have a chance to go far again this season...

If sporting events aren't on your calendar this season (to be honest, there aren't any so far on mine!), these looks could easily take to you to brunch, errands, casual dinner with friends, date night etc.

It's important to note that in using the pieces in your closet, these outfit starters will create looks that reflect and feel like you and your own personal style. Don't forget the power of accessories to take a look to the next level and add some personality.

Casual (Game Day Sidelines or Errands Look):

Outerwear with interest is key in Fall/Winter and can easily elevate the most basic of pieces. Interest can be added through colour, print, texture or silhouette. Of course, you'll need options for rainy days as well as the chillier ones. As temps drop, knit accessories such as beanies, gloves and scarves can be your best friends. And, fellow Vancouverites especially, I realize common accessories will also be rain boots and an umbrella!

Sometimes the style power of outerwear is overlooked - but having these garments in your wardrobe that protect from the elements while making you feel fabulous are game-changers!

Coffee Date/Brunch/Sports Bar Look

Sporty meets chic! Whether you're going for coffee/brunch, hanging with friends or actually watching a game at sportsbar/casual restaurant; a formula like this has you covered. The striped top brings a casual, laid-back vibe which could also be achieved with your favourite sweatshirt or knitwear. Paired with your go-to jeans, loafers or sneakers an outfit like this strikes the perfect balance between stylish and effortless. Note: if you want to add more polish to elevate an overall casual look; pieces such a a trench, a more elevated shoe such as a loafer or boot, structured bag or your favourite jewelry will do this with ease.

Elevated but not overly dressy formula

How cute is this Canucks cross body bag that I found on the NHL online shop? Getting dressed as a fan to support any sports team doesn't have be just a jersey or cap. This is another way to offer a nod to a team in a fun way. But, if like me, you don't have any sports related evenings on the calendar; swap in your own favourite accessories to this simple jeans and nice top combo - always a winning partnership. It's no secret I am a fan of having a couple "going out tops" on hand in the wardrobe that work seamlessly with denim. Here is another example as we near the festive season...

Don't forget these are just outfit starters to get you thinking about what is in your own closet and to build/create from there. Another helpful strategy is to screenshot outfit pics you see online that you love. Before clicking "add to cart" and purchasing the same items being advertised, stop and take a look at your own closet to see if you have something that has a similar feel - you will likely surprise yourself with what's there - and saved some $$. If you find you are consistently missing key elements from looks you love and struggle to build certain types of outfits; these pieces become your strategic shopping list. Shopping with intention makes such a difference, I promise!

Find this type of outfit creation overwhelming? Reach out - a Shop Your Closet session with me either in-person or virtual could be the answer! Once you are set with outfits I put together for you in your own virtual closet, getting dressed will become so much easier!
