5 Key Pieces in a Fall Wardrobe

While I am always sad to say goodbye to Summer, Fall dressing is one of my favourites. Layers, cozy knits, boots, rich hues & jewel tones, plaid & moody florals - I love it!
Capsule wardrobes have garnered a lot of attention these past few years. It makes sense, there is a desire to have less stuff overall, and have more versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched to suit lifestyle needs.
I don't adhere to a set recipe when it comes to wardrobe building as many factors come in to play: style personality, lifestyle needs, body type, budget etc. That being said, I believe a functional wardrobe contains key pieces - and here are some that top my list when it comes to Fall dressing.
Knitwear: Fall is synonymous with cozy so, of course, having a couple of go-to knits is important in a Fall wardrobe. The print, hue, weave and style is up to you (and don't forget sweater-dresses!). Personally, I love to have a chunky cardigan (I just purchased a gorgeous teal Grandpa-inspired one from Joe Fresh) and then a pullover version as well. This season my new butter yellow turtleneck sweater is going to be worn on repeat...
Jackets: Fall is the time to add on those layers. Not only do they add warmth, they add interest and dimension to a look. Suiting is very on trend at the moment - and always in style. Why not consider an oversized boyfriend blazer or perhaps a more fitted version in the print or hue that makes you smile? Cargo and denim jackets are also staples in my wardrobe this time of year. Quilted pieces are also having a huge trend moment so it is the perfect time to bring out those quilted outwear pieces that so many of us who live in Vancouver seem to have...
Turtlenecks: Lightweight turtlenecks are staples in my Fall/Winter wardrobe: black, navy, white and grey - they pair so easily beneath jackets, dresses, jumpsuits and cardigans. I love them nice and thin to not add any bulk - my go to ones tend to be from Joe Fresh or Uniqlo. While I am there, I also pick up opaque tights in navy, black, burgundy and grey. Also staples in my Fall wardrobe.
Boots: Is it just me, or does everyone get excited for boot season? Be it ankle, tall, over-the-knee, flat, combat-inspired or heeled...boots are a key staple in a Fall wardrobe. You can wear them with practically everything - they may be more of an investment but, chances are, they will earn their cost-per-wear.
Denim: While you definitely can wear white after Labour Day, Fall is the perfect time to bring out your dark washed, distressed or black jeans. Looking for a fun new denim trend to try? I am loving a cropped wide-leg with an ankle boot!
