Fall 2018 - Play with prints

It's no secret that I am a fan of prints. A glance into my closet would reveal a collection of stripes, floral, plaid, dots and animal print. For me, it is just an easy way to add visual interest to an outfit. And, as discussed in the "Style ABCs" post, it's also a trick you can use to direct the eye wherever you like.

Print is always stylish. So, you can probably spend some time shopping your closet finding some pieces to give new life to this Fall. At the moment, styling print in a modern way is to experiment with some unexpected combinations (play around with different print families and see how they mix together). Try pairing two bold prints together, or using print alongside a bold colour.

Polka Dots:

Polka dots are a classic print that are definitely having a style moment! They were huge this past Spring/Summer and Fall trend forecasts continue to showcase this whimsical print. Polka dots can be very versatile and easy to style. You can go as bold or understated as you like. They also pair well with other prints such as stripes and floral. Mixing the size of dots within an outfit adds interest to a look, or experimenting with dots on colour (rather than always sticking to black and white or navy and white). Although polka dots have ample styling options, the trick is to do it in a way that you don't end up looking too cutesy or as if you are impersonating a mouseketeer... In the link I've put together a catalog of some dotted pieces that are out there at the moment that caught my eye. You can click for details on each piece and can also order on line if popping into these shops isn't convenient. If you have any questions on how to style a particular item, please don't hesitate to send me a message. Don't forget to shop your closet first as you may have a polka dotted item hiding in there that has worked its way out of sight and mind...

Animal Print:

When I was in London recently, they were just starting to get the window displays for Fall going - and animal prints were dominating (particularly leopard)! Leopard print is classic, and is certainly having a spotlight moment in the style world this Fall. I love animal prints and consider them essentially a neutral depending on how they are styled. I never advocate shopping according to trends, unless there is something current that you are drawn to that will combine with other pieces in your wardrobe, and that you can see yourself continuing to wear and love over the next few years. Remember, it is all about cost-per-wear! Here are a few pieces (link below) in shops at the moment that caught my eye. Each one I can see styled in several ways, multi-season.

As you can see from the header image, all sorts of prints are prevalent this season. I am loving that plaid also seems to be dominating - there is something so timeless about Fall and plaid. Maybe because it reminds me so much of my "back to school" pictures.

Let me know if you come up with any new and fun print combinations...or need any help - I am sure there are some fabulous outfits waiting to be unleashed in your closet.

Have fun!
